During the winter holidays, the Niagara Region comes alive with dozens of events and displays to wow you and your family. Everything from Christmas bazaars, to holiday-themed blasts from the past are ready to fill you with the spirit of the holidays this year. With so much going on, we wanted to share our favourite events taking place within the Niagara Region for you to fully enjoy the winter holidays.
Of course we couldn't have this list without adding the Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls! This is Canada's foremost illumination festival in spectacular Niagara Falls, and it captures the magic of the holiday season perfectly. Walk through this winter wonderland and take in the incredible displays of over three million sparkling lights along the 8+ km route. This runs from November 3rd on through January 31st with other small displays and unique little events along the way. The Festival of Lights is the most enchanting of Niagara attractions and has become a tradition for over one million people from around the globe on winter getaways.
It's a rite of passage to stand and wait for the your chance to see the big man dressed in red as he passes along in his sleigh, waving excitedly as he waves back. Luckily, for those of you with busy schedules, Santa Claus is out and about all over the Niagara region! Throughout November and December Jolly Old Saint Nick will be making his rounds so be sure to check here to see when he'll be nearest you.
The Town of Pelham partners with many not for profit organizations and community groups in the area over the winter season. This outdoor celebration is where residents gather with friends and family to celebrate the tradition and romance of Christmas, and you should too! Not only is this a great way to see what is happening over the holidays, it's a great way to get some shopping done, all while enjoying the tastes, sights, sounds and smells of the tradition of Christmas! Activities are available throughout the months of November, December, and January for the whole family, so be sure to check out their event listings here.
The McFarland House is Niagara Parks' oldest heritage property, a great way for you to step into the past and immerse yourself in history. If any of that sounded wonderful to you, be sure to come and see it dressed in traditional holiday splendour, with handmade decorations by the Garden Club of Niagara. During the first two weekends of December, the house will be allowing visitors to take a step back in time to experience an authentic Victorian Christmas! In fact, the entire property will be open to the public throughout the weekend for this holiday event. Niagara Parks Heritage will be featuring a variety of demonstrations throughout the weekend, including workshop and craft stations, historic carolling and homemade refreshments.
If you haven't seen the thrilling spectacle of Christmas On Ice before, be sure to get your tickets this year! Watch as national championship ice skaters, dancers, and singers come together in a breathtaking display that is sure to fill you with holiday cheer. Show times run from November 22nd to December 9th, so you have plenty of opportunity to catch this winter wonderland event that will fill you with the magic of the season.
