5 Fun Ways to Meet New People in the Niagara Region

5 Fun Ways to Meet New People in the Niagara Region

As we get older, it can become a lot harder to make friends and meet new people, while still getting everything done in the day. We have our busy schedules that keep us pretty focused on the task at hand as well as booking us well into the next month! However, this is not an impossible task by any means and, if you've been looking to expand your Niagara Region social group recently, we've collected 5 fun ways for you to get out there and meet new people!

Hiking

Hiking

This is one of our favourite suggestions for this area because we have so many incredible trails where you can really experience the natural beauty the Niagara Region has to offer. However, this is also an activity that you can turn into a social experience as well! Anywhere from Stevensville Conservation Area to the Upper Whirlpool Trails, Niagara has tons of beautiful hikes nearby. As you're walking, strike up a conversation with other sociable hikers going along with you. You'll find that when you're on the trail with someone, it's easy to have an authentic conversation without the distractions of daily life. Let the surrounding nature inspire a connection; just don't forget to suggest getting together again before you go your separate ways!

Join a Sport or Activity Club

Join a Sport or Activity Club

Although hiking is a great way to meet new people, sometimes you'll go through an entire trail without coming across anyone else. Although this is incredibly relaxing and can help you centre yourself, that's not what we're looking for right now! One way to make sure you will meet up with other people is by joining something like a running or biking group, a softball team, or a tennis league. Find a group who shares a physical activity you enjoy and become a regular. Not only will the endorphins put you in a positive mood, but you'll know these people share similar interests! Start a conversation with other members and suggest meeting for coffee, wine, or beer after one of the events and go from there.

Walk your dog

Walk Your Dog

We've all heard the joke where a guy will pick up a dog in order to talk help him talk with women; however, the truth is that almost everyone loves seeing a happy puppy!  It can get to the point where you'll be stopped by nearly everyone you pass. Taking your dog for a walk gives new people a reason to stop and talk to you. They have an opener and a more accepted way of coming up to you as a stranger. Also, other dogs will be naturally curious and drag their owners over to say hello. Go to Custers Park in Fort Erie or Niagara Falls Dog Park with a ball or Frisbee and have an outing with your pet. Odds are good you'll meet fellow dog lovers.

Wine Tours

Wine Tours

The Niagara Region has so many wonderful vineyards that are open to the public and cater to those with a discerning taste. Our area provides the perfect opportunity to go out and sample the incredible offerings from local farmers, along with others looking to do the same. Go out and join in the fun while meeting other connoisseurs because wine and socializing always pair well together.

Dance Classes

Dance Classes

Dance classes provide a really great experience for people looking to meet others. Everyone is there to enjoy the music, perhaps learn a new skill, and connect with others who love to dance. Ballroom dancing is a great way to get up close and personal with potential new friends or romantic partners, but you don't have to stick with ballroom dance. Take a jazz class, Zumba, or Salsa dancing! This is a great form of exercise where you'll meet fun people who enjoy kicking up their heels. We recommend checking out Fort Erie Dance Studio & Lounge or The Peacock School of Dance if you're interested.

With all the different activities available within the Niagara Region, it won't be hard to find other people you'd like to hang out with. Our biggest recommendation is to take a minute to think about the things you genuinely enjoy‒ your hobbies, interests, and passions. If you pursue the things that actually interest you, you'll find yourself surrounded by people who share these interests! A similarity is often the starting point for a real, close friendship and knowing you have something in common can make it easier to approach someone and help you bond. If you're still struggling to find something you really connect with, we highly recommend MeetUp.com to find various events near you. From all of us at Marina Homes, have fun out there!
