Although it seems like summer just started, time has a funny way of slipping right by when you’re having fun! Soon the school season will be starting and, if you’re still looking, you want to know your options of top schools for your children. Luckily, we’ve created a list of the top schools close to our High Pointe Meadows community in Fort Erie.
Located at 1640 Garrison Rd, Greater Fort Erie Secondary School (GFESS) is only a 3-4 minute drive away from High Pointe Meadows, making it – by far – the closest in our list. GFESS is a brand new facility in the Niagara Falls Region! After opening its doors in 2017, this school has pushed forward with its mandate to develop skills that will help students become active citizens within the Fort Erie community. With new beginnings and new traditions underway, GFESS is brimming with top notch facilities and new opportunities for students passionate about academics, athletics, technology, as well as the fine and performing arts! Be sure to check out their helpful site filled with tips and tricks for students and parents alike.
Garrison Road Public School is steeped in history and traditions, known as a cornerstone of the Fort Erie community for over 130 years! Starting out as a one room school house first opened to students way back in 1879, Garrison Road Public has undergone many transformations, additions, and renovations over the years. However, they have always preserved that unique touch of heritage with the original stone structure – currently operating as their junior kindergarten classroom. Complete with innovative programs and a wonderfully dedicated staff, Garrison Road Public School has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy achievement. They also provide a number of extra-curricular opportunities that encourage the development of excellence and create an environment where students can truly succeed.
Peace Bridge Public School is a bit farther away than the first two schools but if you’re looking for an institution that caters specifically to younger children this is the place to go! Running classes from kindergarten to Grade 8, Peace Bridge Public School provides younger children with a slightly less daunting first couple of years because of their small enrolment (roughly 370 students). However, don’t let that strike you as a negative! Peace Bridge Public School is the result of a three school consolidation in 2013; thus offering the best attributes of all three schools. As a larger school, they are able to offer a number of great opportunities for students. With an extra-curricular program that boasts junior and senior volleyball and basketball, junior soccer, intermediate badminton, robotics, guitar club, choir, student council, and Me to We club to name but a few, it’s clear to see that children can really expect an incredible experience here.
Once again, a little further from High Pointe Meadows, but if you’ve got a little performer on your hands we highly recommend you check out the Fort Erie School of Music (FESM)! Since 1993, FESM has helped to nurture a love and respect for the fine arts within the Fort Erie community. Hundreds of children have come here to begin and continue on their musical journey thanks to the private lessons offered in all popular instruments as well as voice. With a staff of highly experienced and dedicated music teachers from the Niagara area, FESM is capable of teaching students of every age and every level. Upon walking in to the Fort Erie School of Music you can tell this is an environment that has been dedicated to ensuring they provide students and parents with the best musical experience possible. Constant improvements of the facilities, combined with ongoing instructor support easily make this Niagara’s number one choice for music lessons.
