If you’re as excited about Halloween as we are, you’ve already started thinking about trick-or-treaters, costumes, and decorations. Nothing’s better than watching the faces of little ghosts and ghouls approaching your home, staring with wide eyes and big grins at all you’ve put together. With that in mind, we’ve put together some spooky décor ideas to help you give your home that extra Halloween spirit this year!
With some creative thinking, you can recycle that old umbrella you’ve been holding on to, and transform it into a haunting light fixture! Open up the umbrella, remove the fabric covering and stretch spider webbing all over the exposed ribs. Decorate with plastic spiders and battery-operated lanterns attached to the ribs with bent wire or S hooks (picked up at any hardware store). For the finishing touch, tie rope around the handle and hang from the ceiling.
Invite everyone into your home with this bewitching scroll work on your steps! This is an area that usually doesn’t see a lot of attention so it is sure to catch everyone’s eye. Pick up some wood-patterned paper or pieces of thinly cut wood, to give this a nice look. We recommend using a spooky Halloween font like “Chiller” or “Jokerman” to create stencils for painting onto the slats. Also, be sure to use outdoor paints for this project so it will stand up to the weather!
Everyone is used to candy handed out from bowls, so you’re sure to get a few interested looks with these eye-catching gourds. Use a rotary tool with router attachment (like a Dremel tool) to cut a hole in a dried gourd. Then clean out the inside, cleanse with bleach, and rinse. As a wonderful extra addition, place rub-on letters above the opening before fill with wrapped candies and creepy surprises.
It goes without saying that pumpkins have to be a part of your Halloween décor. However, try a different spin on the tradition by carving letters or words into the surface of your pumpkins to send your guests a spooky message. If you carve one letter or word per pumpkin you can create a great look all along your front stoop; casting an eerie glow on your steps at night.
For those of you who are big crafters and looking to go that extra mile, we recommend trying your hand at a versatile centerpiece to carry you through the season. Take a walk through your local craft store and get inspiration from everything they have available. Use miniature fencing or a shallow basket to frame a “yard” of moss, small hay bales, and gourds. Add a black cat and ghoulish signs to stake the territory as you come closer and closer to Halloween!
We hope this list helps you to come up with some ideas for spooky décor this Halloween. As you can see, there are a lot of options out there just waiting for you to put your creative twist on it. From all of us at Marina Homes we wish you all a happy and safe Halloween!
